Soprano Maryann Mootos will appear in the role of Nedda in Chorus Pro Musica’s concert version of I Pagliacci in May 2007 under the direction of Maestro Jeffrey Rink. She can also be seen as Mimi in Miami Lyric Opera’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme in September 2006. She was recently heard as Nedda in Chelsea Opera’s June 2006 production of I Pagliacci in New York City. Ms. Mootos appeared in the role of Birdie in Marc Blitzstein’s Regina with the Boston Opera Project as well as in the role of Micaela in Amato Opera’s production of Bizet’s Carmen. In 2005, she studied and performed abroad in Spoleto, Italy with the Spoleto Arts Symposia. Ms. Mootos was recently named one of Classical Singer Magazine’s 2006/2007 Certified Singers and was the recipient of the Marquis Award in the Emerging Professional Division of the 2006 Classical Singer AudComps Competition.
Ms. Mootos has appeared as a soloist with the Newton Community Chorus under the direction of Maestro Rick Travers as Gabriel in Haydn’s Creation. She has also performed as a soloist in concerts at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music with the Temple University Orchestra and Chorus with conductors Alan Harler and Luis Biava, as well as the Reading Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Sidney Rothstein.
Ms. Mootos attended both the Eastman School of Music where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Voice, and Temple University on a full scholarship where she received her Master’s degree in Opera Performance.
