Division Rankings

At each round the judges will give each competitor a ranking between 1 and 5 based on vocal evaluation and evaluation of submitted materials. These rankings will determine if the competitor will advance to the next round. The rankings will be available at the end of the Convention with the judges' comments.

Rankings Necessary to Advance to Each Round

  • To advance from the Pre-Screening Round to the Semi-Final Round, singers will need to receive a Division Ranking of at least a 2.
  • To advance from the Semi-Final Round to the Final Round, singers will need to have a ranking of at least a 1.
  • To advance from the Final Round to the Professional Audition Round, singers need to maintain their ranking of 1. These singers are considered "Certified Classical Singers" for the next 12 months.

Singers will be evaluated based on their entire package (voice, résumé, headshot, stage presence, dress, interaction with judges, etc).

Rankings are determined by the following criteria:

Ranking
Description
1
Your entire package is ready for auditions appropriate to your artist division.
2
Your product is very good but you’re missing one or more important elements. See judges' comments.
3
Marked improvement is needed in one or more critical area. See judges' comments.
4
You need to rework your technique and/or submitted materials. See judges’ comments.
5
The materials you submitted and/or your performance do not indicate that you are currently prepared for this opportunity.

If you are in need of an excellent voice teacher, consider the teachers found at the National Association of Teachers or at the Music Teachers National Association. You can also research teachers at the Classical Singer Teacher Directory.
