Registration Opens October 1

  • First Round: Sign up for a live location or submit an online application before May 1.
  • Second, Semifinal, and Final Rounds: All events held at the CS Convention in Chicago, May 21-24, 2015.


  • Singers will prepare 3 selections for the live round or 2 for the online round.
  • One song should be in a language other than English.
  • French repertoire is encouraged to be considered for the FAVA Award for University and Young Artist/Emerging Professional divisions.
  • All repertoire should be at the level appropriate to your vocal development.
  • Selections should be contrasting (art songs or arias).

  • High School Classical
    • Ages 14 - 18 as of May 24, 2015.
    • Cannot be enrolled in a university program.
    • Prize Money:
      • $1,000 First Place
      • $500 Second Place
      • $250 Third Place

  • University Classical
    • Ages 18 - 25 as of May 25, 2015.
    • No undergraduate degree as of September 1, 2014.
    • Prize Money:
      • $1,500 First Place
      • $700 Second Place
      • $350 Third Place

  • Young Artist/Emerging Professional Classical
    • No Age Limit
    • Undergraduate degree in vocal-related field recommended.
    • No principal roles with A or B level companies.
    • Prize Money:
      • $3,000 First Place
      • $1,000 Second Place
      • $700 Third Place

First Round

  • Live Locations (View)
    • November, 2014 - April, 2015
    • More than 40 different locations.
    • Deadline for each location is the day before or when a location fills up (space varies at each location).
    • Daytime audition attire is appropriate; no formal wear.
    • The top half or all qualified scores from each location advance to the Second Round in Chicago at the CS Convention, May 21-24.
    • Singers can participate at multiple locations (both live and online) or they can sing for both competitions at a single location, but they need to register separately for each application.

      Competition times will be displayed on your My Account page one week prior to your First Round location date.

  • Online Application (More Details)
    • Complete an application via
    • Submit your application with your audio/video recordings any time before May 1, 2015.
    • Receive a scored evaluation and written feedback from university faculty.
    • Qualified scores (at least the top half) advance to the Second Round.

Final Rounds at the CS Convention

  • May 21-24, 2015
  • Sheraton Hotel in Chicago, IL
  • No additional registration fee, but participants are responsible for their own travel, room, and board.

Registration Fee

  • $75, includes:
    • All rounds of the Competition.
    • Accompanist if needed.
    • College Expo Recruiting Fair, High School & University Masterclasses at the CS Convention.
