More than $2,100,000 of cash prizes, university scholarships will be available to participants of the High School Competition 2010. We thank these schools and programs for their participation and generosity!
UNIVERSITY and SUMMER PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIPS
- The majority of the university scholarships will be awarded at the Final Round Concert in New York City on May 30, 2010 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. However, schools may offer scholarships to qualified singers at any point of the Competition.
- Schools can offer their scholarship to whatever singer they choose. The criteria of each scholarship is determined by the participating school.
- Students may receive more than one scholarship offer. It is then up to the student whether or not to accept the scholarship. All communication and acceptance dialogue is then between the school/program and the singer.
- Students are eligible for scholarships to all schools, not just the school that hosted their First Round.
- The majority of university scholarships will be given to juniors and sophomores as many schools are not allowed to give scholarships to seniors after May 1.
Arizona State University
A minimum scholarship of $11,000 (additional scholarships may be given if the winner exceeds expectations.)
Auburn University
• Competitors may choose to also be considered for Auburn University Music Department Scholarships and admission to our music programs, Bachelor of Music Education & Bachelor of Arts (vocal performance).
• Auburn University may also award a limited number of either free voice lessons and/or coachings in preparation for the next round of the CSM competition.
The Boston Conservatory
A $10,000 scholarship (renewable based on Conservatory academic criteria).
Brenau University
The Brenau University International Opera Center
The Opera Certificate program is a year-long course of 12 credits, at the post-baccalaureate level. The program includes coaching in opera repertoire and role preparation, language study, applied voice, movement/theatre/dance electives, and performance opportunities.
Brigham Young University
BYU will offer a full-tuition scholarship to a national finalist who applies and is accepted to BYU.
Chapman University
Chapman University Conservatory of Music will offer a talent award scholarship to one or more of the national winners. Please note admission to the Conservatory of Music requires acceptance to Chapman University as well as a supplemental application to the Conservatory of Music. Offer of a talent award does not constitute a guarantee of admission.
Clayton State University
The Spivey Foundation will offer a $4,000 scholarship, renewable annually for up to 4 years, to the winner of the High School Competition at Clayton State (contingent upon gaining admission to Clayton State University). Clayton State University may also award a limited number of free voice lessons or coachings with CSU faculty in preparation for the next round of the CSM competition.
Cleveland Institute of Music
The regional winner will be offered a minimum scholarship of $10,000 (renewable based on conservatory academic and artistic criteria) for four years to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music. To receive the award, the winner must make application to and be fully accepted by CIM.
Colorado State University
Colorado State University will offer a $2,000 scholarship to a national finalist who meets the admission requirements.
DePauw University
National winners will compete for DePauw’s Classical Singer Scholarship: $10,000 ($40,000 over a four year period) which will be applied to the cost of attendance. A scholarship even greater than this award may be offered upon evaluation of the Classical Singer Scholarship Recipient’s Application for Admission, in the context of our complete applicant pool.
Eastman School of Music
A $10,000 tuition scholarship for one junior and $10,000 tuition scholarship for one sophomore if the singer subsequently applies, auditions, and is accepted and enrolls. This is not a cash award. This may be their entire package at Eastman, or it may be part of their package at Eastman.
Hofstra University
A $10,000.00 (grand total, over 4 years) Hofstra Music tuition scholarship, to one senior and one junior who sing at the First Round Competition held at Hofstra, who subsequently apply, are accepted, and matriculate at Hofstra University. Offer of a talent award does not constitute a guarantee of admission; student must meet admissions criteria of Hofstra University.
Interlochen Arts Academy
Interlochen will offer up to $50,000 in scholarships for the competition, for singers grades 9-11 to attend Interlochen Arts Academy as voice majors.
James Madison University
Scholarships will be available to promising candidates.
Lawrence University
Lawrence will offer $12,000 annual renewable scholarships to select national finalists for students meeting the admissions criteria of Lawrence University.
Long Island University
Two $5000 Musical Excellence Awards for In-coming Freshmen
The Department of Music of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is pleased to offer a $5000 Musical Excellence scholarship, renewable annually, to each of two winners of the High School competition round who choose to attend C.W. Post. Eligibility for the awards will be determined by ranking in the competition. These students will study with C.W. Post Director of Vocal Studies Ruth Golden or another member of our distinguished faculty. (Candidates should note that the student must apply to and be accepted by the university in order to receive the award, and must fulfill the terms of the Department of Music Scholarship Contract in order for the award to be renewed.) To help these students prepare for the next round of the Classical Singer competition, each may receive a free voice lesson from Professor Golden, and a free vocal coaching with C.W. Post faculty member Mark Shapiro, to be scheduled at the mutual convenience of all parties.
Longy School of Music
National Winners of the High School and University Competitions will be offered a minimum scholarship award of $10,000 (renewable based on conservatory academic and artistic criteria) toward future study at Longy. To receive the award, the winner must apply and be accepted into a new program at Longy.
Mannes College
We will offer a Mannes Scholarship to any voice applicant from the winner of the Classical Singer competition that is accepted into Mannes College and is eligible to receive a merit award.
North Park University
Undergraduate Scholarship Awards, ranging from $1,500 to full tuition, are available to national finalists in the Classical Singer High School Vocal Competition who sing the primary round at NPU and to other designated singers performing at the national round. Grants are pending university acceptance.
Palm Beach Atlantic University
Palm Beach Atlantic University will offer a full-tuition scholarship for 4 years to a High School student who meets university academic entrance standards and majors in music. Students must be comfortable, if not enthusiastic, about attending a Christian university. The scholarship would be offered to the highest ranked mezzo or male singer in the top 50 who meet the above criteria and accept the award.
Portland State University
Participating students will be considered for scholarship at Portland State University.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music
The regional winner will be offered a scholarship of $15,000 (renewable based on conservatory academic and artistic criteria) for four years to study at the San Francisco Conservatory. To receive the award, the winner must be accepted to SFCM. The second-place winner is eligible for a $10,000 scholarship and the third-place winner is eligible for a $5,000 scholarship.
Shorter College
$10,000 tuition scholarship—renewable each year.
Songfest at Pepperdine
SongFest at Pepperdine will offer a merit-based full tuition scholarship ($1640) to a sophmore or junior high school singer to attend the SongFest 2010 in Malibu summer program: June 5-27, 2010. In order to be eligible for this award, potential singers must apply to the program by March 18, 2010. Information and applications can be found online: www.songfest.us or through Yaptracker. The winner will be chosen by Rosemary Hyler at the semi-finals in New York City.
Temple University
Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance will offer a merit scholarship, renewable based on academic and artistic criteria, to the winner of the Classical Singer Competition. To receive the award, the winner must complete an application to Temple University, and be fully academically and musically accepted.
Texas Christian University
Two $5,000/year scholarships to TCU.
UCLA
UCLA may offer one or more in-state tuition scholarships, minimal $7,000-$9,000, to a winner or finalist of the High School Vocal Competition, at the discretion of the Department Chair.
University of Alabama
The University of Alabama School of Music will offer one of the National winners a full scholarship to the University of Alabama—student must intend to be a voice major beginning fall 2009.
University of Georgia
The Hugh Hodgson School of Music has scholarship funding available to those students who are accepted into the school and are enrolled as vocal majors.
University of Houston
Qualified singers will have the chance to earn a substantial scholarship award (exact amount to be determined by the faculty based on the qualifications of the student).
In addition, the First Place winner of this First Round will receive one coaching session (at the Moores School of Music with our coaching staff) on the repertoire for the National Competition.
University of Miami
The regional winner will be offered a minimum scholarship of $10,000 for four years to study at the Frost School of Music. To receive the award the winner must make application to and be fully accepted by the University of Miami and the Frost School of Music.
Winners will also be offered a voice lesson or a coaching in preparation for the national competition in Chicago.
University of Pacific
$500 scholarship to the Pacific Opera Institute summer program to the First Place winner of the First Round.
Also, pending approval of the financial aid office, the highest merit scholarship award will be given to a national winner and will include opportunities to be awarded even more dependent on financial need and academic merit.
University of Redlands
School of Music will offer a talent award scholarship up to $10,000 (renewable based on School of Music criteria) to one or more of the national winners. Please note admission to the School of Music requires acceptance to University
of Redlands as well as a supplemental application to the School of Music. Offer of a
talent award does not constitute a guarantee of admission.
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
$1,000.00 Scholarship to an incoming freshman from the High School Competition.
Vanderbilt University
$5000 renewable scholarship to a winner of the Final Round Concert in New York City '08.
FIRST ROUND PRIZE $300 cash award to first place winner of this regional round of auditions.
Westminster Choir College
The first place winner(s) from the Westminster First Round will receive a $2,000 scholarship to Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University (offered in addition to any other scholarship the student receives from Westminster / Rider – total of all scholarship awards cannot exceed $20,000).
William Jewell College
All first round winners will be eligible for William Jewell music scholarships. One outstanding singer (determined by the judges) will be awarded a $200 cash prize.
