About Shorter College: The School of the Arts at Shorter College combines the college’s liberal arts curriculum with intensive arts instruction and a wealth of performing opportunities. Students are guided by dedicated music faculty members – active professional musicians who attended some of the most prestigious institutions in the world. They are serious about teaching, and our small class size allows them to share their knowledge and expertise in an individualized setting. From the freshman year, students build their experience through participation in our acclaimed concerts and productions. Students perform as leads in our productions, which include two major musicals and two operas each year, along with scene workshops and opportunities for student directors in both programs. The renowned Shorter Chorale is the college’s premiere choral group, and students also perform with the Shorter Chorus; Somethin’ Else, a men’s a cappella group; and Proclamation, a women’s ensemble. Undergraduate degree programs offered through Shorter’s School of the Arts are Performance (Voice, Piano and Organ), Piano Pedagogy, Music Education, Church Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Our music programs have been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1934. Shorter College is consistently ranked among the South’s best colleges by U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review. Click HERE to go to Shorter College's official web site.
