Although her heart and family roots are in New Mexico, Ava received her college education in Southern California. The youngest of four children, she completed her Bachelor’s work in music at California State University, Northridge, before moving to Northern California to study privately with tenor Evaldo Dal Poggetto.Ava’s opera experience includes leading roles such as Violetta (La Traviata), Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly), Aida ( Aida), Georgetta (Il Tabarro), Polly (The Beggar’s Opera), and Cinderella (Cinderella). She has been guest soloist with many regional orchestras, including the Solano Symphony, Camellia Symphony, Auburn Symphony, Gold Country Chamber Orchestra, the Sacramento Choral Society and Festival Symphony, and the Valley Choral Society and Orchestra. Ava has also performed in recitals and concerts in Northern and Southern California, Europe, Canada, Central Mexico, and the Philippines. In 2005, she gave a recital as part of the Westminster Concert Series in Sacramento, and in 2004, Ava sang for the 50 year anniversary of the Sacramento Saturday Club at the Crocker Art Gallery. Other performances include singing a benefit performance for the Sacramento Women's Chorus and a local AIDS care program, appearing as musical guest artist with the now defunct Capitol City Ballet for a performance of the Heitor Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brazileiras No.5., and a concert for the Sacramento Italian Cultural Society — an organization that supports and celebrates Italian opera in the Sacramento area. Ava has also been a guest performer in several festivals and concerts commemorating Leonard Bernstein, Bach, Brahms, French composers, and a concert in remembrance of the Holocaust. |
