Kristina A. Semos (soprano) is a proud Greek-Texan, originally from Dallas. Her operatic repertoire includes such roles as Gilda, Lucia, Marguerite, Micaëla, Violetta, Lauretta, Cunegonde and Mimi. She has performed with several companies, including Regina Opera, Opera Manhattan, Chelsea Opera, Espresso Opera, Brooklyn Repertory Opera, Opera Lirica in Orvieto, St. John’s Performance Series, and Westchester Summer Vocal Institute. This past year, Kristina appeared as Ciesca in Regina Opera’s Gianni Schicchi, Marguerite in Opera Manhattan’s Faust, Micaëla in Espresso Opera’s Carmen, Meg in Chelsea Opera’s The Ballad of Baby Doe, and covered the title role in Regina Opera’s Lucia di Lammermoor as well as Violetta in Opera Manhattan’s La Traviata. Previously, Kristina provided the sound-scape for the New York Fashion Week runway show of Elisa Jimenez, Project Runway contestant. Kristina also opened a runway show for Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, not only sharing the stage with hip-hop star Kat De Luna, but also introducing opera to the hip, trendy crowd that gave her rave reviews. In 2006, she appeared as Belle Fortune in Brooklyn Repertory Opera’s production of A.F.R.A.I.D., a modern feminist opera by Susan Stoderl. The same year, she was seen in recital to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Perhaps the socially-conscious trend began in 2005, when Ms. Semos produced and starred in a dramatized recital work entitled “Sempre Libera – Always Free: An Aria Concert Against Queer Domestic Violence,” which raised funds for the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. An international traveler, she spent a year in Europe touring as a soloist with the University of Bologna’s chamber choir throughout Italy and England, and has sung in televised concerts at the Palazzo Dei Sette and Museo Claudio Faino in Orvieto, Italy. A clear choice to appear in high-profile events, Kristina has also given performances for Brown University’s televised Baccalaureate Service, and for multiple banquets in Dallas’ prestigious Hall of State. At home in musical theatre as well as opera, Ms. Semos has sung Carrie in Carousel, and the Baroness in Candide at Brown University, where she graduated Magna cum Laude with degrees in Music and Italian Studies. For the 2009-2010 season, Ms. Semos will sing Zerlina in Regina Opera’s Don Giovanni, Musetta in Opera Manhattan’s La Bohéme, Frasquita in Regina Opera’s Carmen, and the title role in Opera Manhattan's Anna Bolena. She currently lives in New York City. |
