Soprano
Hailed as an artist of “…remarkable stage presence and unfettered emotional expression”, soprano Katherine Cardin is recognized for her vibrant vocalism and dramatic intensity. Ms. Cardin commands the stage with a captivating presence and a rich, lyric sound that belies her petite stature. After establishing a reputation as one of the Southeast’s most promising young artists, Katherine relocated to New York City, where she has quickly made a name for herself as a versatile singer-actress whose voice has the rare capability to shine equally in both operatic and musical theater repertoire. Recently, she has performed in multiple productions with Opera Company of Brooklyn, appeared regularly on CBS Radio’s Rock Chicks Live, and has been a featured artist on the Musaic Concert Series. As 2009 Resident Artist for Syracuse Opera, she covered Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) and performed Mimí in an outreach adaptation of La Bohème. Her signature roles include Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Despina (Cosí fan tutte), Anne (A Little Night Music), and Flora (The Turn of the Screw). Additional roles include covers of Cunegonde (Candide) with Pine Mountain Music Festival and Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) with Nashville Opera’s Young Artist Program, and an adaptation of Violetta (La Traviata).
In demand as a concert artist, Ms. Cardin won high praise for her performance of Samuel Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" with the Pine Mountain Symphony. A gifted outreach performer, Ms. Cardin has toured with the Knoxville Opera's Opera 101 educational outreach program and recorded the title role in Little Red Riding Hood for the Nashville Opera Young Artist Program.
With continuing success, Ms. Cardin has been selected through national auditions for such prestigious programs as Pine Mountain Music Festival, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and most recently the OperaWorks Advanced Artist Program in Los Angeles.
